According to the Telegraph, Tottenham Hotspur are one of many clubs likely to make a move for West Bromwich Albion defender Jonny Evans this summer – a player Arsenal offered £12m to sign at the end of January – as he’ll have a £3m release clause if the Baggies suffer relegation this season.

The 30-year-old was valued at £30m back in August but could now leave the Hawthorns for 10% of the price as Albion are currently rock bottom in the Premier League table and 10 points adrift of safety with seven games remaining.

Evans has made 25 league appearances this season and has been far from his best. West Brom have conceded 49 goals from 31 games, in addition to suffering 17 defeats, and an exit for the Northern Ireland looks on the cards as a result.

His contract is up in 2019 and it’s unlikely clubs are going to pass up the chance to sign him for £3m this summer. Evans joined Albion from Manchester United in 2015, making more than 90 appearances in all competitions for the Midlands outfit.

He made nearly 200 appearances for Manchester United, winning three Premier League titles, two League Cups and one Champions League so he has a wealth of experience to bring to any side.

Arsenal shouldn’t turn their nose up given Per Mertesacker is retiring this summer to become the new Head of Academy, while Laurent Koscielny’s days are numbered due to a chronic achilles injury. Shkodran Mustafi has been inconsistent too, so Evans wouldn’t be a bad option.
