Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has revealed he’s no closer to signing a new deal, meaning he could yet leave the club for free at the end of the season, reports the Daily Mail.

The 26-year-old has been offered a new deal by Arsenal, but it’s reportedly considerably lower than his current contract, instead incentivising appearances.

The Daily Mail say Wilshere earns £100k-per-week as a basic wage, but the deal from Arsenal would require him to take a 20% cut. The English international’s injury problems are what have led the club to instead reward his appearances, rather than pay a highest basic salary.

Arsenal are still confident of coming to an agreement, as it doesn’t appear another club are leading the race for Wilshere’s signature, nor does the midfielder want to depart the Emirates Stadium. It’s not good news that an agreement isn’t close, however.

When asked if a deal would soon be reached, the academy graduate replied: “Not really no. Things have changed since then. We’re no closer to sorting anything out.”

After missing the first few weeks of the season as he was recovering from a leg fracture, Wilshere has gone on to make 16 Premier League appearances from a possible 21 since his return. He’s made over 180 appearances in all competitions for Arsenal but could be leaving as things stand.
