Welcome to Arsenal Alexis Sanchez

The usual frustrating transfer window seems to be far behind Wenger and Arsenal as they announce their first big signing of the summer in the form of striker Alexis Sanchez.

The Chilean International has signed a long term contract with the Gunners worth around £30m and he will be paid £150k a week. He turned down Liverpool and Juventus and vacated the Nou Camp to join Arsenal and it was one of those special talks with Wenger that clinched the deal.

Speaking to reporters Sanchez told them:

“I’m so happy to be joining Arsenal, a club which has a great manager, a fantastic squad of players, huge support around the world and a great stadium in London. I’m looking forward to meeting my new team-mates and to be playing for Arsenal in the Premier League and Champions League. I will give my best to Arsenal and want to make all the supporters happy.”

Over the past few weeks we have been fortunate enough to observe just how good Sanchez is when he was playing for his native Chile during the World Cup, he scored twice in 4 games and in all those games he performed to a high standard. His record at Barcelona matches with 39 goals in 88 appearances.

He is small in stature at 5ft7″ but this means he is speedy and has the ability to move deftly and precisely allowing his opponents to often be left behind. His pace is what is needed most at Arsenal but that won’t be the only thing Sanchez will provide, he scores a lot of goals and his finish is outstanding, he can take free kicks and extremely well too, his creative ability is second to none and he can read a game with great perception.

He will also have a great effect on other players in the team especially Giroud and Ozil. Giroud will finally be a support striker instead of the main guy and I think he will excel in that role if he has Sanchez alongside him or in front of him, he won’t be under as much pressure to run fast and therefore concede the ball and he will be able to focus on what he strong at which is linking play.

Ozil will finally have someone in front of him that he will be able to feed shot after shot instead of having to seek out Cazorla or Ramsey if Giroud hasn’t got into position yet. He will thrive having someone of Sanchez’ calibre in the team with him and I think everyone else will too.

This deal is one of Arsenal’s biggest yet-not in price as Ozil takes that crown but we have been in desperate need of a world class striker, a front man who can come in and improve everyone’s game by just being in the team and I think Sanchez can provide that.

Sanchez will join his team mates in pre-season training at the end of July after taking a break to recover from the World Cup he will wear the number 17 shirt and will most likely make his unofficial debut at the Emirates cup.

All that is left to say is:

Welcome to Arsenal Alexis Sanchez, we’re happy you’re here!
