Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal have been dealt a big injury blow after Shkodran Mustafi limped out of Germany’s World Cup qualifier against Azerbaijan, according to Sky Sports.

The Germany defender went off with what appeared like a thigh injury and was helped from the pitch by medical staff.

Running alongside Ramil Sheydaev when Mustafi pulled up, with the Azerbaijan player then twisting and turning past Chelsea’s Antonio Rudiger to score a brilliant goal against the world champions in Kaiserslautern.

Mustafi will now likely undergo scans on his return to Arsenal and, dependent on a tear, could potentially ‘ruled him out for months.’

He has started five of our seven Premier League games to date so far this season and is a key part of Wenger’s setup. Arriving the Emirates for £35million in the summer of 2016, Mustafi has registered 26 Premier League appearances in his first season with Arsenal.

The former Sevilla man isn’t the only big-name Premier League star to pick up an injury over the international break. The break has also seen Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini and Chelsea powerhouse N’Golo Kante also limped off for Belgium and France respectively.

Arsenal’s next match is against Watford on Saturday October 14 and, with Laurent Koscielny and Calum Chambers both nursing knocks, Mustafi also appears to be a doubt for the evening kick-off at the Emirates.

Germany boss Joachim Loew said: “It doesn’t look good, it looks like he had torn a ligament. We’re waiting for a full diagnosis, but it looks like he will be out for a while.”
