Seven players that Arsenal should sell this summer

Arsenal are entering a crucial period that has the potential to dictate their present and the future. Making the right moves in the transfer market can pull them closer to the teams ahead of them.

One way for the Gunners to do this is by selling players to raise funds. As they do not have European football for next season, the north Londoners will not need this big of a squad.

Whether they will get the right price is another matter, but it is important for them to be moved on. Some of the names mentioned here have already been linked with a move away so, it could only be a matter of time.

Matteo Guendouzi – Market Value (£17 million)

The French midfielder spent the last season on loan at Hertha Berlin and is being linked with a move to Marseille. After a blistering start to his Arsenal career, it might be time for him to move on.

It is clear that Mikel Arteta does not get along with the youngster and if there is a chance to sell him, it should be taken. Though the Gunners might get less than his market value, it would represent a profit made on the initial investment.

Guendouzi’s stock has fallen since his heroics during the 2018/19 season, but the youngster remains one for the future. A change of scenery could help both parties in search of a fresh start.

Alexandre Lacazette – Market Value (£24 million)

The forward’s current value is almost half of what the north Londoners paid for him in the summer of 2017. But with just one year left on his contract, now would be the best time to sell.

Extending Lacazette’s deal would result in the club not getting much when he does leave. At the age of 30, his value is only going to go down so the forward should be placed on the market this summer.

With Arsenal already having Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Folarin Balogun waiting in the wings, letting go of the Frenchman would be smart.

Lucas Torreira – Market Value (£17 million)

One of the players that will certainly be sold this summer, the Uruguayan is now linked with Lazio. After spending last season on loan in Spain with Atletico Madrid, we could see him move on a permanent basis.

Another signing that did not fulfil the early promise, Torreira would benefit from a transfer. Also, this is one deal that is closer to happening than some of the other names.

The player could fetch the Gunners a decent fee and it would benefit the club’s coffers. Though the potential sale of the 25-year-old and Guendouzi would leave the north Londoners a bit short in midfield, these deals must be pursued.

Willian – Market Value (£7.5 million)

One of the most ill-advised signings that Arsenal have done in recent years, it ended up being a spectacular failure. When the winger arrived from Chelsea on a free, a lot of eyebrows were raised.

After scoring just one goal in 37 matches, those suspicions have proven to be right. Despite beginning on a promising note, the Brazilian’s form took a nosedive, and he was replaced by younger talents.

It is time for the Gunners to cut their losses on Willian and sell him to any club that would be interested. Given that he has two years left on his contract, it allows him to be sold for some kind of fee.

Konstantinos Mavropanos – Market Value (£5 million)

After impressing on his Premier League debut against Manchester United in 2018, the Greek defender looked set for the top. But injuries hampered his progress, and the centre back was sent out on loan.

It was his spell with Stuttgart last season that showed what a good player he can be and the German club wants him back. This is another deal that is looking like it will happen sooner rather than later.

The Gunners already have a lot of options in defence and with their interest in Ben White, there may not be any room for Mavropanos. The market value is less when compared to the player’s talent but presents an opportunity to sell.

Sead Kolasinac – Market Value (£5.5 million)

Kieran Tierney is firmly established as the first-choice left-back at the Emirates stadium. This was one of the reasons why the Bosnian was sent on loan to FC Schalke earlier this year.

Now, with the Gunners looking elsewhere for a backup, Kolasinac should be placed on the market. Whatever money is raised from this potential sale, it can be used to find a deputy for Tierney.

It appears that the defender would be better served by moving away from the north London club. So, selling the 28-year-old would be a good way to trim the squad.

Eddie Nketiah – Market Value (£13.5 million)

A player that seemed to have lost his way last season, could benefit from a move away. At the age of 21, the Englishman still has the potential to become a great forward.

The Emirates club could get more than Nketiah’s market value as he is young and homegrown. With younger forwards waiting in line, now would be a good time for the striker to jump ship.

There are many clubs that could benefit from a goal scorer such as the Englishman. A deal will be beneficial to both the player and the club.

Some of the names mentioned here would be sold for a small fee. But it is important in building up funds that can be used on transfer targets.

The upcoming season is a great chance for the Gunners to reduce the size of their squad. And if they can use these sales to buy the right kind of players, it will put the club in much better health.

One factor that Arsenal need to keep in mind is the speed and efficiency with which these deals are made. Getting them done as soon as possible, can help the north Londoners focus on incomings.
