Arsenal are reportedly looking into the possibility of pursuing Real Madrid winger and highly-touted star Marco Asensio, who is seen as an alternative to Thomas Lemar and a long-term replacement for Alexis Sanchez, who may or may not be out the door when the transfer re-opens in January.
If reports from Spanish publication Diario Gol are to be believed, then Paris Saint-Germain are still interested in luring Real’s starlet to Paris after having failed do so this past summer.
The young Spaniard was promised regular first-team football when the season began, but Cristiano Ronaldo’s return has seen Asensio’s first-team appearances restricted with the attacking midfielder down the pecking order once again.
It is said according to the Spanish news outlet that PSG, who are still after the Gunners target, made an offer for 120m Euros which will also see Julian Draxler move to Real Madrid. The European champions aren’t willing to part ways with the Spain Under-21 international and Asensio himself desires to become a legend at the club.
The Ligue 1 giant’s interest is still there and it is said that they will return with another offer for him next summer, with Arsenal also mentioned to be interested in securing Draxler’s signature.
My view:
If Arsenal were able to force through a deal for the young Spaniard, it would truly be a remarkable signing. Asensio is highly valued at Madrid, and has attracted the attention of many top clubs from around Europe and is seen as a blossoming star. It would be an extraordinary signing, one that could replicate the blossoming successes of his past forays into the Spain youth systems.
