Porto manager Sergio Conceicao has accused Mikel Arteta of insulting his family in the Champions League last 16 match on Tuesday.
The Gunners, who lost the first-leg of the Round of 16 tie 1-0, levelled the tie after Leandro Trossard scored a 41st minute goal at the Emirates Stadium.
The game went to penalties where David Raya’s two saves helped the Premier League side win 4-2 and qualify for the quarter-finals of the European tournament.
After the final whistle, Conceicao and Arteta appeared to be involved in a heated confrontation on the pitch before they were separated.
The Portuguese boss later claimed in his press conference that Arteta disrespected his family during the match.
He said (as per BBC Sport): “The result was injust. Our team deserved to go through.
“What Arteta said, towards the bench in Spanish, he insulted my family. He should focus on training his team.”
The Gunners boss was asked about the confrontation but he declined to make a comment.
However, the English club sources have said the Spanish boss denies the accusations of Conceicao.
Crucial Manchester City game
Arsenal showed great resilience to make it to the Champions League quarter-finals for the first time in 14 years.
But now their focus returns to the Premier League where they are in a fierce title race with Manchester City and Liverpool.
The Londoners are currently sitting at the top of the table, despite having the same points as the Reds.
Arsenal’s remaining games this season will see them take on Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur but the most tricky fixture will be against City at the end of March.
Beating Pep Guardiola’s side at the Etihad Stadium will be very challenging but a victory will be a massive psychological boost for the Gunners.
