Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech revealed his frustration at manager Arsene Wenger for constantly rotating him for David Ospina in cup games, reports The S*n. The 35-year-old is first-choice between the sticks in the Premier League but not in the EFL Cup, FA Cup or Europa League.

Since Cech joined Arsenal from Chelsea in 2015, the Gunners have made the final in the FA Cup (2016/17) and EFL Cup (2017/18), but the veteran shot-stopper didn’t feature in the final. Instead, second-choice goalkeeper Ospina was selected.

“(At Chelsea), it wasn’t always a case of playing in one or two competitions — it was game by game. If you kept playing well and didn’t need a rest, the manager had his choice to pick the goalkeeper for the competition,” he said.

“I enjoyed that because I love this competition — to play FA Cup games makes it a bit more spicy and special. But you have to respect the manager. You can tell him you would prefer the other way but the decision is his.”

Cech recently set a Premier League milestone, keeping his 200th clean sheet. He’s made 30 appearances in the top flight this season, conceding 41 goals and shutting out 10 clubs. With less than 18 months on his deal, Cech’s long-term future at Arsenal is uncertain, forcing the club to size up a replacement.

Ospina could be leaving too, as he’s previously expressed his disappointment in the lack of playing time. Cech may have preferred being in the 29-year-old’s shoes, given he’s played in a host of finals for Arsenal since joining from OGC Nice in 2014, but instead he’s been reduced to league football only.

The Czech Republic international has made over 100 appearances in all competitions, but only six of them have come in Europe.
