No Interest in Fabregas… So Is That It Then?

So just over a week ago Barcelona confirmed they would be listening to offers for a few of their playing staff, former Arsenal Captain Cesc Fabregas was the most notable Catalan made available for a fee of around £30 million. Everywhere was printing that the creative midfield man was a certainty to make a return to the Emirates, many fans were dusting off their Cesc No.4 tops ready for the new season ahead , one stumbling block is the man that calls the shots. Surely Arsene Wenger would take the little Spaniard back in a heartbeat wouldn’t he? well it looks like he is not interested along with league Champions Manchester City who have declared no interest.  It has since materialised that Chelsea are very interested in Fabregas with the impending exit of Frank Lampard he would be the obvious replacement.Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has admitted his interest and is ready to offer £200,000 a week. I along with many others didn’t consider anything like this happening a week ago I guess money can make people reconsider their principles. “If I ever wear a Chelsea shirt, you have the permission to kill me.” said Fabregas back in 2010 what a difference 4 years makes, not to mentioned being benched a numerous amount of times.

I like many have to start to question his loyalty not necessary to Arsenal because in my eyes that went when he moved to Catalonia. His loyalty to his boyhood club is in question, lets bare in mind the “desire”, “love” and “respect” he declared upon exiting the Emirates you would imagine his love for Barcelona would eclipse that significantly so the minute Barcelona say they are willing to listen to offers he could not pack his bags soon enough. This issue has divided many Gooners with some saying we should be interesting and some saying he is not a priority. I will sit on the fence on this issue.I would be lying if I said that I would not have welcomed Cesc back with open arms but with the same token all is not lost you would expect there is a very good reason why the club did not pursue Fabregas considering Wenger fought tooth and nail for that first refusal option within the deal which saw us pocket £35 million plus add ons. It is clear that with the exit of Lukasz Fabianski and the impending departure of Bacary Sagna these positions along with a world class defensive midfielder and two strikers are where the clubs priorities should be.

It would be incredibly premature to suggest that this is a sign of yet another poor showing by us in a transfer window it is early days it is after all only the 6th June. This is probably the most frustrating time to be a Gooner with our past discretions and what seems to be a lack of ambition in acquiring the marquee names so many desire. Many disbelieved we would pull off a signing like Mesut Ozil  last season but that happened I am not the biggest fan of Wenger as you would have noticed in previous articles but it is way too early to judge this window and his performance within it.
