Links between Arsenal and Anthony Martial have re-emerged after his agent admitted the French international has an uncertain future this summer. However, the Gunners have so many options in attack they could well overlook him at the end of the season.
According to the Daily Star, Martial’s agent Philippe Lamboley told Il Bianconero: “Will [Martial] stay in Manchester in the summer? At the moment, I cannot say anything else about it. His goal is to win the FA Cup and to cement with Manchester United the second place in the Premier League.”
Players’ representatives always act coy for the media when asked about the future of their clients, but there could be some truth to Lamboley’s uncertain comments. The 22-year-old has been a target of Arsenal’s in the past when Arsene Wenger was trying to find a replacement for Alexis Sanchez in January.
Martial won’t be happy with the lack of faith from Jose Mourinho. The United manager is either starting him on the bench or substituting him in the second-half of games. This season, the Frenchman has only lasted a full 90 minutes on the pitch four times in the Premier League.
However, the Gunners really don’t need another forward in the squad, regardless of Martial’s availability. With Danny Welbeck, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Alex Iwobi, Mesut Ozil and Henrikh Mkhitaryan as options in attack, Martial could struggle for minutes at the Emirates.
With 14 goals scored and created in 16 Premier League starts this season, Martial would make a good signing for a lot of clubs. Arsenal may well have enough in the final third without him now, however.
