Khedira To Arsenal In £11M Madrid Switch?

It looks like a case of better later than never for Arsene Wenger in his pursuit of German World Cup winner Sami Khedira who is reportedly close to completing a deal for a January switch to the Emirates, the deal is reportedly going to cost the Gunners £11 Million. Khedira who is free to talk to clubs in January as his contract expires next Summer looked all set to make the switch to Chelsea with a mooted deal agreed a couple of months back. One stumbling block will be his wages demands so everyone is getting ahead of themselves if they think that this deal is a certainty to go through, Khedira this Summer was a man in demand, linked with Arsenal, Manchester United, Chelsea and Bayern Munich to name a few but no move materialised as it appeared his wage demands were even too high for Chelsea who along with a price tag £24 Million opted to look elsewhere.

Khedira has been injured which could be the reason for the sudden drop in club valuation add that to his impending contract expiration and Madrid not being hopeful of keeping him this could be a very good signing if Wenger could pull off this deal. The French boss is not exactly known for his January business but with the lack of cover in the squad especially players with a defensive mindset, he has been left with no choice and surely the board won’t allow that. There have been signs in the past that Chief Executive Ivan Gazidis is not shy in taking charge over transfers to avoid fan backlash thinking back to the signings of Mikel Arteta and Per Mertesacker especially when it looked like nothing was going to happen for Arsenal in another window that looked like a dead rubber, I would expect the same again if Wenger doesn’t budge.

Arsenal this season like many before have failed to address key areas, Central defence and the need for a holding midfield player has once more not been addressed and will have to be sorted out come January. We have heard this before though, only last January when Arsenal were pushing for honours and everyone was screaming “go and buy a Striker” and by everyone I mean everyone, from Ex players and fans to even sports pundits. As always nothing happened, cue capitulation and only a run of games that were very winnable anyway saved our blushes once again as we fortunately finished with Champions League football. The same can not happen again, if as Gazidis has said is true and we can now financially challenge the likes of Bayern Munich lets show our strength.

khedira would be a fine addition to any squad, his wealth of experience in the Champions League and International football is invaluable, you don’t receive over 50 caps for Germany and not have something special about you.  This would be another signal of intent with the addition of Alexis Sanchez in the Summer and the best possible outcome of this would be that Khedira would bring the best out of Mesut Ozil who has had a tough time of late but looks to have regained his form with a MOTM performance on Saturday against Aston Villa.
