Arsenal boss Unai Emery has called for calm among fans of the club after their 3-2 defeat against Chelsea on Saturday.
The Spaniard took up the daunting task of replacing Arsene Wenger as manager of the Gunners during the summer. His spell at the Emirates has began under less than ideal circumstances as he has lost both of his opening two Premier League fixtures. However, in the defence of Emery, these results have come against Manchester City and Chelsea who are arguably two of the best team’s in the League. In addition to this, the Gunners are on a rebuilding phase. While fans can realistically hope for improved performances from last season as well as a possible top four finish, it would be unreasonable to expect Emery to deliver the top-flight title during his first season.
The Gunners were also very competitive against Maurizio Sarri’s Chelsea side and the game looked to be headed for a 2-2 draw before Marcos Alonso struck during the 81st minute to win the game for the Blues.
Alonso delivered a cross which allowed Pedro to open the scoring after nine minutes. Alvaro Morata then went on to latch onto a long pass and double the advantage during the 20th minute.
Arsenal did manage to pull one back ten minutes before half time as Henrikh Mkhitaryan smashed a low strike beyond the reach of Kepa. Four minutes before half-time Arsenal managed to equalize as Hector Bellerin and Mkhitaryan combined down the right before Mkhitaryan struck a low cross which was struck into the net by Alex Iwobi.
The Gunners next face off against West Ham United next weekend. This is the perfect game for Emery to record his first points and possibly win of the season and there will be no excuses if he fails to do so. The Hammers are in poor form after losing both of their opening fixtures. They went down 4-0 against Liverpool last weekend and lost 2-1 against Bournemouth on Saturday.
