Edinson Cavani Move To Arsenal In January Would Make No Sense

There has been many a report linking Paris St Germain’s Uruguayan Striker with a January move to the Emirates, yes for many this would be yet another signal of intent but would also show once more that Wenger and the board alike still have no idea where the real problems exist at the club.  Cavani has had a good start in Ligue 1 this season scoring 7 in 18 games but as we all know it is not the best barometer to indicate whether they would be a good fit for the Premier League.

CAVANI CAN LEAVE FOR THE RIGHT PRICE

It has been reported that the former Napoli forward will be allowed to leave if the right money comes in and this is believed to be in the region of £60 million and this is surprising when you look at him being in good form for them and it is almost a rarity that the kind of money we are talking about is thrown around in January let alone by Arsenal. If Wenger is to bring in a big name you would think he would be sensible enough to sign players that will be available in the Champions League.

WHAT ARE ARSENAL’S PRIORITIES FOR THIS WINDOW?

Putting this Cavani talk to one side for a moment, everyone that has an ounce of intelligence in football and even from a fan perspective must realise the area that needs addressing (once more) are the defensive positions ie Central Defence and most importantly defensive midfield. Sporting Lisbon’s William Carvalho has been linked with a £20 Million move to the Emirates this morning and this seems more logical than any outlandish January move for a player that is just not necessary. There is also the talk of Wenger’s transfer budget, if reports are to be believed then he has only £20 Million to work with which shows a distinct lack of ambition or maybe a lack of trust.

WILL WENGER MAKE A BIG JANUARY MOVE?

Many Arsenal fans have a very resigned demeanour to the Winter transfer window, on numerous occasions Wenger has shown a real distinct lack of interest in doing any kind of business mid season and it would not be a surprise to many fans if it is a repeat of this time last year when additions were required for a title tilt but once more he sat back and settled for fourth place. Being in danger of sounding like a broken record as I have been for many a season with the “genius” that is Arsene Wenger the man that appears to be unsackable and have that uncanny ability to not be held account for any problem that raises it’s ugly head. There needs to be some real investment come January but sensible investment. Key areas must be addressed once and for all. It is all very well to throw money around on “marquee” signings but with only three recognisable central defenders at the club in the shape of burned out 19 year old Calum Chambers, the past his best Per Mertesacker and an unfit Laurent Koscielny there will be real problems ahead if reinforcements aren’t brought in come January. Finishing out of the top four for Arsenal is unthinkable and will be a calamity.
