The Mirror have linked Arsenal with Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson, suggesting the Gunners are keeping tabs on a player who’s currently out on loan with League One side Shrewsbury.
Championship side Aston Vila are the only other suitor named in the report, which suggests he isn’t as coveted as you’d expect, so why are Arsenal interested?
United are reportedly keen to keep him and have offered a new deal to convince him to stay. However, Henderson wants to leave as he’s yet to make a first-team appearance at the age of 21.
Arsenal are in the market for a goalkeeper as both Petr Cech and David Ospina will be out of contract in less than 18 months. Should Ospina leave this summer, Emi Martinez would be second-choice to Cech. Would Henderson really stand a chance of dethroning him without top flight experience?
The Mirror’s report is a stretch, as the Gunners are being linked with Bundesliga-based targets as Petr Cech replacements due to Sven Mislintat’s appointment as Head of Recruitment.
Henderson is more on-par with Matt Macey, Arsenal’s third-choice stopper this season who signed a new deal in December 2017. The United ‘keeper wouldn’t improve the Gunners’ options so it would be surprising if this story turned out to be true.
