As it stands, Arsenal appear to have been given a major boost in their attempts to extend the contract of Germany’s midfielder Mesut Ozil.
Report about the German contract extension and that of his teammate Alexis Sanchez have been at a deadlock for months over the new deal.
Ozil has until 12 months for his current deal with Arsenal to expire but the former Real Madrid player has yet to reach an agreement over an extension.
The Turkish-German has been severally linked with a switch to Manchester United and Besiktas over recent weeks, while report earlier this week claimed he could choose to ply his trade in Turkey with Süper Lig giants Fenerbahçe S.K.
According to Turkish sports newspaper Fanatik via Turkish Football asked Ozil’s agent Dr Erkut Sogut the latest regarding interest from Turkey whilst revealing that talks are on-going over a new deal for the German. He said: “Ozil wants to play another 2-3 years in the Premier League.”
He added also that: “Talks with Arsenal are ongoing regarding a new deal, what I can say right now is that negotiations are going well.”
Arsenal face the possibility of losing both the German and Sanchez – who also has under 12 months on his current deal – on a free transfer next summer unless an agreement is reached before January.
Ozil has yet to score or provide an assist for Arsenal this season having missed the past few games with a knee injury. He is expected to be back in action when we take on Watford at the Vicarage Road this weekend and will be hoping to get back to scoring ways.
