Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech is still waiting to break the Premier League clean sheets record, having been stuck on 199 since mid-December. The Gunners’ 1-0 win over Newcastle United was the last time they shut out a side in the league. That was three months ago.
Arsene Wenger’s men haven’t managed a clean sheet for a quarter of a year in the Premier League, conceding against Liverpool, Crystal Palace twice, West Bromwich Albion, Chelsea, Bournemouth, Swansea City, Everton, Tottenham and Manchester City since the Newcastle game – a total of 10 games.
Cech, who joined from Chelsea in 2015, has made nine clean sheets from 28 league games this season, conceding 39 goals. Arsenal’s defensive record is unsurprisingly the worst in the top-seven, and their goalkeeper cannot shut out a side to finally reach the 200 clean sheets milestone.
Brighton & Hove Albion are next up for Arsenal, but the Seagulls are coming off the back of fantastic form and are formidable on home soil so Cech nor the Gunners can take anything for granted.
With only 37 clean sheets kept and 107 goals conceded in 97 league games, the veteran goalkeeper perhaps hasn’t had the impact at Arsenal that he would have hoped.
