Arsenal centre-back Calum Chambers has put pen to paper on a new two-year contract extension.

The defender arrived Arsenal in the summer of 2014 from boyhood club Southampton and has gone on to register 60 appearances across all competition for Arsenal.

He spent last season on loan at Middlesbrough and after impressing at the Riverside, Chambers was expected to leave The Emirates during the summer.

The 22-year-old has featured just a single appearance this season, playing against Doncaster in the Carabao Cup but has now signed a new deal with Arsenal, that will see him with the club until the summer of 2021.

A club statement read: “Everyone at Arsenal is looking forward to Calum’s continued contribution to the club.”

Whether Chambers can become a mainstay in the team remains to be seen, but the news of new deal is a demonstration of Wenger’s belief in the defender’s abilities.
