Arsenal travel to the San Siro to face AC Milan in the Europa League last-16 on Thursday evening, and are big underdogs given their poor form of late. Both sides are underperforming in their domestic leagues this season, but Arsenal are having the worst 2018, while Milan are currently thriving.
Arsene Wenger’s men have suffered eight defeats this year already and come into Thursday’s meeting with the Rossoneri off the back of four consecutive losses. Arsenal have been poor away from home too, winning only three of their last 14 outings in all competitions.
As for their opponents, hosts Milan have won five and drawn one of their last six games in 90 minutes. The Serie A outfit, who are also outside of the Champions League places have been strong at home, boasting five wins and a draw from half a dozen matches at the San Siro.
The formbook suggests the Italians will seize advantage in the first leg of Thursday’s Europa League last-16 clash, leaving Arsenal with a mountain to climb for the return fixture at the Emirates. Wenger knows it’s all or nothing now, as they’re out of the FA Cup, League Cup and title race, but his men haven’t delivered all season when it mattered.
