AS Monaco midfielder Thomas Lemar made a public ‘come and get me’ plea to Telefoot recently that has brought Arsenal’s name back into the equation, reports the Independent.

The Gunners nearly signed Lemar for £92m last summer before the deal broke down on deadline day and reports suggest Arsenal could try again.

The 22-year-old would be open to a move to the Premier League, having admitted regret hat Monaco stood in the way of a switch to England, and says he’s trying to put himself in the shop window this season.

“Regrets? Maybe. I was a little disappointed. Once it’s over, it’s over, so do not think about it. I will keep working hard so these clubs will eventually come back in the next transfer window. I am open to all offers. I am a football player, I like football. I do not close any door,” Lemar said.

Lemar would be 30% cheaper than before, with reports suggesting Monaco would accept around £61m for his signature now. But do Arsenal need him? The Gunners have attacking players in abundance but are lacking those of substance.

A goalkeeper, central defender and central midfielder are expected to be made a priority for Arsenal this summer, so a player like Lemar could be overlooked, especially for £60m.

The 22-year-old has been in decent form this season, scoring and creating nine goals in 20 Ligue 1 starts, but Liverpool might be a better destination for him. The Reds came close to landing his signature in January and may re-affirm their interest in the coming months. Arsenal are better off staying out of it.
