Arsenal are one of the top favourites to win the Premier League title this season. They made a spectacular start to the 2022-23 season and are now five points clear at the top of the table.
However, they will not be in action again until Boxing Day with the 2022 World Cup set to start this weekend. Gabriel Magalhaes was a surprising omission from the Brazil squad but Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli were both fortunate enough to make the cut.
Below are the ten Gunners players who were named in the 2022 World Cup squads.
Aaron Ramsdale, Bukayo Saka and Ben White (England)
Three Arsenal stars were named in England’s squad for the 2022 World Cup. However, it is uncertain whether they will be able to earn a spot in Gareth Southgate’s starting XI.
Saka was part of the England squad at Euro 2020 and cruelly missed his spot-kick against Italy in the final. Ramsdale is behind Jordan Pickford in the pecking order while White was only called up to the squad following the withdrawal of Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli (Brazil)
Gabriel Jesus has recently been struggling to score goals for the Gunners but he has still managed to earn a place on the plane to Qatar. The 25-year-old wasn’t at his best at the previous World Cup when he started all five matches for Brazil but failed to score a goal.
Considering the impressive attacking options at the disposal of Tite, Martinelli’s inclusion was a little surprising. However, he has been at the top of his game this season at the Gunners as he has struck five goals in 14 league matches.
Granit Xhaka (Switzerland)
Granit Xhaka has been an important member for the Switzerland national team over the years. The 30-year-old has earned over 100 caps for Rossocrociati so far. He will be playing in his third World Cup after the 2014 and 2018 editions.
William Saliba (France)
William Saliba has been excellent for Arsenal this season following his loan stint at Marseille. He has played in all 14 league matches for the Gunners so far, with two goals to his name. The young centre-back has been rewarded for his impressive performances at the Emirates Stadium as Didier Deschamps included him in his squad for the 2022 World Cup.
Takehiro Tomiyasu (Japan)
Tomiyasu hasn’t been a regular starter for Mikel Arteta’s side this season but has been very dependable when called upon. The 24-year-old will be part of the talented Japanese squad for the World Cup in Qatar.
Matt Turner (USA)
Turner has been serving as the reserve goalkeeper at the Emirates Stadium. He has been impressive with his performances in the Europa League and has received a call-up for international duty in Qatar.
Thomas Partey (Ghana)
Thomas Partey has earned 40 caps for Ghana after making his senior debut in 2016. He is expected to play an important role for the national side.
