Former Arsenal striker Ian Wright says that current star Mesut Ozil is a ‘shoo-in’ to join fellow Premier League outfit Manchester United.

The German, along with team-mate Alexis Sanchez, is in the final year of his contract at the Emirates Stadium and as such is entitled to talk to other clubs in January ahead of a potential free transfer next summer.

Whilst nothing has been decided at this stage, Wright believes that the playmaker wants to leave and is worried about the prospect of one of the North Londoners’ brightest talents joining a key domestic rival.

“Mesut [Ozil] on a free to Manchester United looks a shoo-in,” the Gunners legend told BBC Radio 5 Live’s Football Daily.

“I’m sure Jose [Mourinho] would love to do that.

“That would frighten me to death. He is a great talent and having great players around him would lift him up as well.

“I’m sure him and his agent would not push it this far if they were going to sign [for Arsenal].”

Ozil joined Arsenal back in 2013 from La Liga giants Real Madrid and has been a mainstay of manager Arsene Wenger’s side ever since.

Renowned for his vision and remarkable passing range, the 29-year-old has recorded 60 assists since signing for the club, as well as bagging 33 goals.

He played a starring role in the recent 2-0 win over local rivals Tottenham Hotspur but sat out Sunday’s trip to Burnley after being taken ill on the morning of the game.

Although Wenger has refused to confirm that Ozil and Sanchez will depart in the near future, the more time that passes without the duo penning a new deal, the likelier it seems that they will seek pastures new.

Next up for Arsenal is a home clash in the league against Huddersfield Town, before they host Manchester United on Saturday evening.
