According to Daily Mail, Arsenal are planning a £30m swoop for SC Freiburg defender Caglar Söyüncü. The 21-year-old has impressed in the Bundesliga this season and could be the subject of a bid from the Gunners this summer.

Head of Recruitment Sven Mislintat is believed to have found the centre-back and Arsenal have held talks over a move. Söyüncü is young but he’s been a regular in the Freiburg defence, making 21 league appearances, averaging a tackle or interception every 21 minutes.

Arsenal have a real need for a centre-back this summer as Per Mertesacker is retiring to become the new Head of Academy. Laurent Koscielny’s days are numbered as he’s been struggling with a chronic ankle injury that has required daily treatment for some time.

Manager Arsene Wenger doesn’t appear to fully trust the likes of Rob Holding and Calum Chambers at the heart of the Arsenal defence either, so a new face could be brought in at the end of the season.

Söyüncü has Manchester City, Liverpool, AS Roma and Manchester United keen on his signature, so Arsenal could struggle convince him to the Emirates. His £30m asking price might be deemed a gamble for a player so young, however, so the Gunners could opt for a more experienced option.
