According to the Telegraph, Arsenal are lining up seven potential replacements for manager Arsene Wenger – Thierry Henry, Leonardo Jardim, Paul Fonseca, Joachim Low, Carlo Ancelotti, Brendan Rodgers and Mikel Arteta.
Wenger’s position will reportedly be reviewed at the end of the season, and his departure could well ensue as a result. Arsenal are currently sixth in the Premier League, 10 points off fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur with 10 games to go.
The Londoners were knocked out of the FA Cup by Nottingham Forest in the third round and recently lost in the EFL Cup final against Manchester City. They have a task progressing in the Europa League too, with AC Milan next up in the last-16.
Arsenal could end up trophyless and without Champions League football for a second consecutive season as things stand, which could result in Wenger leaving his post. The club are considering replacements now and have seven names on the shortlist.
Mikel Arteta, who played for Arsenal between 2011-2016, is on the list of potential Arsene Wenger replacements.
Henry, a Gunners legend and their all-time top goalscorer, is the Belgium assistant manager. His lack of managerial experience might rule him out, however., given the task at hand.
Jardim led AS Monaco to the Ligue 1 title and Champions League final last season and has the defending league champions second to Paris Saint-Germain in the table this time round. He would be high on the shortlist.
Fonseca won the domestic treble with Shakhtar Donetsk last season and has the Ukrainian Premier League side currently top of the table this campaign. Everton are among the clubs keen on his services.
Low won the 2014 World Cup with Germany, having spent 12 years in charge with the national team. He’s long been linked with Arsenal but hasn’t made a public desire to leave the Eagles.
Carlo Ancelotti is currently unemployed after winning the Bundesliga and DFL-Supercup with Bayern last season. He would be open to a move to Arsenal, having previously managed Chelsea between 2009 and 2011.
Brendan Rodgers won the domestic treble with Celtic last season and looks on course to retain the league crown. He led Liverpool to second in the Premier League table in 2014.
Mikel Arteta is Manchester City’s assistant manager and could be winning the Premier League alongside Pep Guardiola. He’s high on the shortlist of Wenger replacements.
