Arsenal’s comeback victory against Southampton on Sunday extended their winning run to six games in all competitions, putting them in great shape ahead of Thursday’s Europa League meeting with CSKA Moscow.

“We want to continue to win our games. We were questioned. Southampton were leading, they came back to 2-2, and every time I believe we have shown great spirit, even if at the end of the game it was a bit hectic,” said Arsene Wenger to Arsenal.com.

“I must say when you come to the Emirates, you see football and you see goals. That’s what you want to give to our fans.”

Arsenal’s form (last six games)

  • 8/3/18 (Champions League) AC Milan 0-2 Arsenal
  • 11/3/18 (Premier League) Arsenal 3-0 Watford
  • 15/3/18 (Champions League) Arsenal 3-1 AC Milan
  • 1/4/18 (Premier League) Arsenal 3-0 Stoke City
  • 5/4/18 (Champions League) Arsenal 4-1 CSKA Moscow
  • 8/4/18 (Premier League) Arsenal 3-2 Southampton

Arsene Wenger was under intense pressure earlier in the season as Arsenal only once managed to win more than two Premier League games on the bounce.

Before March’s revival, the Gunners had suffered defeats to the likes of Stoke City, Watford, Bournemouth, Swansea City and Brighton & Hove Albion, but now they’re finally putting a run of results together.

Danny Welbeck has come into form of late, scoring and creating five goals in four games, while Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has netted in each of Arsenal’s last four league outings. Alexandre Lacazette has also found his scoring boots, bagging three in as many games, while Aaron Ramsey has contributed seven in seven.

In the league, Arsenal have won their last three games, scoring nine goals for their troubles, and have gone a month without defeat. The London outfit boast two clean sheets from their last three outings, having previously gone 11 games in the top flight without shutting a side out.

Wenger’s men are currently sixth in the table with 54 points from 32 games, three shy of fifth-placed Chelsea and five clear of seventh-placed Burnley. Their hopes of attaining a Champions League spot look dead and buried, however, as fourth-placed Tottenham are 13 clear of Arsenal with 18 points remaining.

Arsenal’s remaining fixtures (in all competitions)

  • 12/4/18 (Champions League) CSKA Moscow v Arsenal
  • 15/4/18 (Premier League) Newcastle United v Arsenal
  • 22/4/18 (Premier League) Arsenal v West Ham United
  • 26/04/18 (Europa League semi-finals) TBC
  • 29/4/18 (Premier League) Manchester United v Arsenal
  • 03/05/18 (Europa League semi-finals) TBC
  • 5/5/18 (Premier League) Arsenal v Burnley
  • 9/5/18 (Premier League) Leicester City v Arsenal
  • 13/5/18 (Premier League) Huddersfield v Arsenal
  • 16/05/18 (Europa League final) TBC

Arsenal may have to juggle the Europa League semi-finals and final in between their Premier League fixtures if their run continues in Europe, but there’s no reason why they can have a strong end to the campaign given the sides they’re soon to face.

Wenger will be hoping success in the Europa League and a winning finish in the league will boost his relationship with the supporters. His future is uncertain as an early departure in the middle of his two-year contract has been suggested as a result of Arsenal performing well below expectations, although Wenger remains defiant that he’ll never quit.

Six consecutive wins in all competitions will see the Arsenal dressing room in much better spirits than they were after March’s defeat to Brighton, but they can’t rest on their laurels. The next five weeks could make or break the future of Wenger and a number of players.
