Arsenal interested in Chelsea winger Noni Madueke

Arsenal are likely to make multiple additions to their attacking department ahead of next season.

A marquee striker is the main priority for the Gunners, but a versatile winger could be signed too.

According to The Telegraph, Arsenal are one of the English clubs exploring the possibility of signing Chelsea winger Noni Madueke this summer.

It is unclear where the Englishman is on the Gunners’ priority list, but his ability to operate from the right or left wing ‘makes him an attractive proposition’.

Madueke is ‘not considered untouchable’ at the Blues, particularly with their ongoing pursuit of Borussia Dortmund attacker Jamie Bynoe-Gittens.

Madueke won’t provide an upgrade for Arsenal

The 23-year-old is predominantly a right winger and has made 155 appearances in his career from the role. He has played just 10 times on the opposite flank.

Keeping this in mind, we don’t believe the Gunners should approach for Madueke. Arsenal’s primary concern has been the limited creativity from the left wing position.

Madueke made 16 goal contributions in the recent campaign for Chelsea, but all of those came from the right wing. He failed to score or assist in his six games from the left.

Hence, he won’t provide an upgrade for the Gunners. The former PSV Eindhoven man missed 14 big chances in the league last term, scoring with just nine percent of his shots.

In comparison, Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard missed only eight and nine big chances respectively, scoring with 15 and 11 percent of their shots attempted.

Chelsea are reportedly eyeing £60 million for their winger.

For the price mentioned, the Gunners could be better off pursuing a deal for RB Leipzig’s Xavi Simons, who is comfortable playing on either wing or in the number 10 role.
