Key dates for the 2025/26 season
The football calendar is heating up as the 2024/25 season approaches, with transfer windows, kick-off dates, and cup competitions now locked in.
It all began with a unique pre-Club World Cup transfer window, which opened from June 1 to June 10, allowing clubs an early chance to strengthen ahead of summer’s main business.
The full summer transfer window officially reopened on June 16 and will close on Monday, September 1.
However, clubs will have to be smart about their summer business, with the cut-off date for the 2024/25 profitability and sustainability rules (PSR) reporting period coming on June 30.
Looking ahead, the winter window will open on January 1 and shut on February 2. But before then, all eyes will be on the start of the new Premier League season.
Action kicks off over the weekend of August 15–17, just a week after the reigning Premier League champions Liverpool and FA Cup winners Crystal Palace face off in the Community Shield on August 8.
The Carabao Cup begins in mid-August, with Premier League teams not playing in Europe set to enter the competition in the second round, which will start in the week of August 25.
The rest of the pack will join in the third round, which kicks off in the weeks of September 15 and 22.
Premier League clubs will enter the FA Cup in the third round, which starts on January 10. The final match round will be played on Sunday, May 24, with all 10 games kicking off simultaneously.
