Serie A giants Lazio have set an asking price of €50 million for left-back Nuno Tavares after turning down an opening bid worth €35m from Al Hilal, according to Corriere dello Sport.
The Portugal international joined the Italian outfit on loan from Arsenal last summer. Lazio were obliged to buy him for around €8m after certain conditions were met.
The club are now aiming for a quick profit from the defender. They have turned down an opening bid of €35m from Al Hilal and are eyeing at least €50m for his transfer.
Arsenal could richly benefit from the instant sale, considering they have a 35 percent sell-on clause. If Tavares were to depart for €50m, the Gunners would receive €17.5m.
Al Hilal are anticipated to make a renewed approach before the transfer window initially closes for the Club World Cup on Tuesday evening.
Arsenal could receive huge windfall from Tavares
Tavares had a tremendous start to the 2024/25 season with Lazio. He managed eight assists by November before sustaining a series of short-term injuries.
The 25-year-old managed only one more assist for the rest of the campaign. Arsenal have already secured around €8m from the left-back’s permanent move to Lazio.
They could now receive a substantial windfall with Al Hilal pushing to recruit the former Benfica man.
Lazio president Claudio Lotito is playing hardball over the price, but the Gunners will be hoping that a deal materialises with the Saudi Pro League club.
An additional €17.5m profit from Tavarez would present a brilliant piece of business for Arsenal, who could do with extra funds for a summer spending spree.
Aside from a marquee striker, the Gunners are anticipated to land a versatile winger, a defensive midfielder and a backup goalkeeper this summer.
