Arsenal have withdrawn from the race to sign Espanyol goalkeeper Joan Garcia, according to Jijantes FC journalist Carlos Monfort.
The 24-year-old was on the verge of signing for the Gunners last summer after agreeing personal terms with them, and he was also keen on a move this summer, with reports last month claiming the North London club are close to signing him.
However, Arsenal believe there is no use spending €25 million on another goalkeeper when they have David Raya within their ranks.
Garcia has plenty of suitors willing to recruit his services ahead of next season, with Barcelona, Manchester City and Newcastle United all in talks with him too.
He wants to continue as the number 1 goalie elsewhere having indicated an interest to leave Espanyol, but Arsenal are not able to offer him that chance.
Their sporting director, Andrea Berta, was never convinced that signing him would be a good use of funds if the club have to manage spending during the ongoing summer transfer window, and it appears they have finally listened to the Italian.
Neto will return to Bournemouth later this month after his season-long loan spell ends, while Karl Hein will return from his loan with Real Valladolid, and the Gunners will be left with him, 19-year-old Tommy Setford and 16-year-old Jack Porter to provide cover for Raya during their pre-season tour.
Arsenal may look elsewhere for a number 2 as manager Mikel Arteta may have reservations over playing any of the aforementioned trio should anything happen to Raya during the course of next season.
They will be able to get a capable and quality cover for the Spain international in England and across Europe, but they need to act quickly having left things very late last summer, having no choice but to sign Neto on transfer deadline day.
