Lazio planning permanent deal for forgotten Arsenal ace Nuno Tavares

Arsenal are expected to be very busy this summer, with Mikel Arteta keen to bolster every area of his squad ahead of another potential Premier League title challenge.

The Gunners are set to finish the season as runners-up for the third year in a row, and Arteta is eager to make decisive signings that could give his side the edge next season.

Arsenal are still holding out slim hopes that they can overtake Liverpool in the Premier League title race despite sitting 11 points behind the runaway leaders with seven games remaining.

The Reds still look nailed-on to lift their second league title in five years, but Arsenal aren’t throwing in the towel.

Nevertheless, the Gunners are already planning for next season, and this summer is incredibly important if they’re going to hit their targets.

A spending spree is expected, but that also means Arsenal will have to balance the books to avoid getting flagged by the Premier League Profit & Sustainability Rules (PSR).

There are a host of players on the chopping block, and the Gunners may have already found a landing spot for one of their castaways.

Lazio want to sign Nuno Tavares permanently

Nuno Tavares is one of several players set to leave Arsenal this summer, and Calciomercato reports that Lazio are planning to sign the Portuguese defender at the end of the season.

The 25-year-old joined Lazio on a season-long loan last summer, and the Serie A side has a conditional obligation to make his stay permanent for as little as €5 million (£4.2m).

Tavares made a flying start to life at Lazio, registering eight assists in as many Serie A games, but his form has fallen off a cliff over the past few months.

Nevertheless, that brief spark has skyrocketed his market value, with Lazio set to demand €40m (£34.2m) from prospective suitors this summer.

That also bodes well for Arsenal. If Lazio takes him off their hands permanently and decides to resell him later on, the Gunners are entitled to a 20% sell-on clause.
