Arsenal are particularly interested in signing one of Bundesliga’s in-form strikers this season.
The Gunners are likely to spend big during the summer transfer window. A marquee centre-forward could be the main priority for the London giants.
Mikel Arteta’s side have been linked with Alexander Isak and Benjamin Sesko, but Bild claim that the club are aiming to recruit a different striker.
The German outlet report that Eintracht Frankfurt’s Hugo Ekitike is expected to leave this summer and he is attracting interest from several English clubs.
However, the Gunners are particularly hot on the trail of the Reims graduate.
The Frenchman has a Transfermarkt value of £33.5 million, but Eintracht have set an asking price of £67m. It remains to be seen whether Arsenal will make such a huge outlay.
Ekitike would be a better signing than Sesko for Arsenal
The Gunners are poised to recruit a marquee striker. Isak seems the perfect fit, but a deal could be difficult to pull off if Newcastle United qualify for the Champions League.
The Tyneside outfit have just won the Carabao Cup and will have high ambitions for the future. If they were to make the Champions League, Isak may not leave for less than £130m.
In that case, Arsenal may have to look elsewhere. Sesko will have a release clause between £59m and £67m in his RB Leipzig contract this summer, but Ekitike would be a better buy.
Sesko has had plenty of hype due to his immense potential. The Slovenian ace has accumulated 17 goals and six assists in all competitions for Leipzig this season.
In comparison, Ekitike has fared better with Eintracht, registering 19 goals and eight assists.
The Frenchman has a passing accuracy of 79 percent in the Bundesliga this term compared to Sesko’s 67 percent. He is much better with his hold-up play too.
Both are modern strikers who are very mobile on the playing field, but Ekitike seems the more all-round marksman and would suit the Gunners’ playing style.
