Arsenal are interested in signing one of Ligue 1’s in-form strikers.
The Gunners have had a frustrating Premier League campaign. They have been superb defensively but have struggled to find consistency in the final third amid injuries.
Manager Mikel Arteta will want to bolster his attack and could prefer more than one acquisition.
TuttoJuve now claim that the Gunners are one of the clubs following Jonathan David, who could leave Lille on a free transfer when his contract expires on June 30.
The London giants are not alone in the pursuit, with competition from nine more clubs, including Manchester United, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur in England.
David would be a quality signing on a free transfer
Arteta will want a marquee striker ahead of next season. Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak and RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko are the top two choices, as per Fabrizio Romano.
In our opinion, Sesko is the more achievable target among the two, considering the Magpies may not sell Isak if they were to qualify for the Champions League next season.
With the lesser outlay required for Sesko, Arsenal could contemplate signing another striker too.
David would be a huge bargain on a free transfer. The 25-year-old has been fabulous for Lille this campaign, registering 23 goals and providing another 10 assists.
The striker, valued at £38 million by Transfermarkt, has shown his big-game potential with nine goals and four assists in the Champions League, including the qualifiers.
David has opened the door for a Premier League move. It remains to be seen whether he would accept a reduced role. Arsenal may not see him as their first-choice striker.
