Arsenal dropped points for the second straight Premier League game following a goalless draw against Nottingham Forest on the road.
The Gunners produced a much better performance on Wednesday night and were unlucky not to score in the opening half. Riccardo Calafiori’s fantastic effort deflected off the woodwork into Matz Sels’ hands.
Mikel Arteta’s side were thoroughly dominant shortly after the break, but Forest managed to withstand the early pressure. The substitutions of Danilo and Ryan Yates helped them to calm proceedings.
Towards the end, Chris Wood could have secured maximum points, but William Saliba came to the rescue.
The Frenchman initially botched his interception but made amends with a terrific tackle on Wood before he could unleash his effort on goal.
The centre-back had another nervous moment with a loose pass, but he was overall the Gunners’ best performer at City Ground.
Saliba finished the game with a passing accuracy of 90 percent. He had 93 touches against Forest and won 100 percent of his aerial duels (6/6).
The Saint-Etienne graduate also made seven clearances and four ball recoveries and won 100 percent of his tackles. He received an 8/10 rating from Fotmob.
Arsenal have dropped 13 points behind league leaders Liverpool after yesterday’s stalemate. They have a game in hand, but the Reds are now favourites to win the title.
The Gunners still have plenty to play for. They must end the season on a high and can’t afford to slip down the standings due to the ongoing attacking injury crisis.
In the short term, they must focus on the first leg of the Champions League last 16 tie against PSV. A victory would put them in a strong position to make the last eight.
