Can Arsenal Still Catch Liverpool?

The Premier League title race is intensifying, with Liverpool currently leading the way and Arsenal in close pursuit. Liverpool have a healthy lead over Arsenal, but even though the Gunners trail the Reds, they’re still not completely out of the running. But it will take a huge effort and some luck to see them knock Arne Slot’s team off top spot.

Despite the gap, and despite everything suggesting they can’t catch Liverpool, which includes EPL betting online where Liverpool are odds on favourites to win the league, Arsenal’s recent performances have shown they’re still determined to push until the end. They beat Manchester City 5-1 at the beginning of the month, highlighting the team’s attacking prowess. After the game, midfielder Declan Rice emphasised the team’s commitment to closing the gap on Liverpool and acknowledged lapses earlier in the season contributed to the current deficit.

However, Arsenal have challenges to meet head in alongside the points difference they’re looking to overcome. Injuries to key players continue to test the squad’s depth, with Gabriel Martinelli the latest to be added to the injury list. This setback is compounded by injuries to other attacking players, such as Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus, limiting manager Mikel Arteta’s choices at the top of the pitch.

Liverpool, under new manager Arne Slot, have demonstrated consistent form throughout the season. Their recent 4-0 win over Spurs has seen them become Carabao Cup finalists, underscoring their dominance across multiple competitions. Although, their 1-0 reverse to Plymouth in the FA Cup is something they’ll want to forget.

Historically, overcoming a six-point deficit at this stage is a huge challenge, but it’s not insurmountable. The Premier League has witnessed major comebacks before. Notably, in the 1997/98 season, Arsenal overcame a 13-point gap to clinch the title. It highlights that momentum shifts can and do happen.

The fixture list will undoubtedly play a crucial role in determining where the title ends up at the end of the season. Arsenal must capitalise on upcoming matches and make sure they stick to their side of the bargain, hoping Liverpool slip up. If this happens, Arensal can chip away at the points advantage Slot’s team has. Failing to capitalise on any slip-ups would be disastrous.

Arsenal will also be hoping that they begin to see the likes of Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli return to action in the coming weeks, as this would give them a timely boost at the business end of the season. It will also give Arteta more options to choose from and give him the ability to rotate when he needs to do so.

There’s no doubt that Liverpool hold all the cards and have a huge advantage in the Premier League title race, but Arsenal remain within touching distance. A comeback is certainly possible. However, it will require Arsenal to be as close to flawless as possible and for Liverpool to stutter, things that are still yet to happen.
