Discussions are ongoing for Arsenal defender Kieran Tierney to join Celtic before the end of the January transfer window, according to Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
The 27-year-old left the Parkhead club in August 2019 for the Gunners but has struggled recently, spending last term on loan at Real Sociedad.
A return to Celtic during the second half of 2024-25 now appeals to Tierney and both clubs are in talks over the move.
The Scotland international has made an appearance for Arsenal this term but is not in the plans of manager Mikel Arteta and the Hoops will be glad to have him back.
Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers watched helplessly as his side lost 3-0 to Rangers at Ibrox yesterday, and he will be desperate to bolster his squad with much-needed quality additions this month.
He could do with someone like the Gunners star on the pitch and in the dressing room, and an agreement is expected to be reached given the willingness on the part of the player to complete the move.
Some other departures could take place at the North London club before the end of the month, with Poland international defender Jakub Kiwior also linked with an exit.
Arsenal have enough squad depth at the back and may decide against signing another defender should Tierney return to Celtic and Kiwior move on.
They could look to strengthen their options in attack following the long-term injury to Bukayo Saka, and they are reportedly keen on signing Real Sociedad attacker Takefusa Kubo, while Paris Saint-Germain forward Kolo Muani is also said to be on their radar.
Arsenal need quality squad depth going forward this term if they are to win the Premier League and challenge strongly across other competitions, and they will hope to get things right during the January transfer window.
