Arsenal are interested in signing one of Wolverhampton Wanderers’ best players during the winter transfer window, according to The Telegraph.
The Gunners have had a frustrating campaign by their high standards. They are nine points behind league leaders Liverpool at the current point.
Arsenal have been letdown in the final third due to the inconsistency of Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus up front, and they could spend big on a marquee forward.
The Telegraph claim that the Gunners have their sights on landing Wolves’ Matheus Cunha. Their interest was sparked before Bukayo Saka’s hamstring injury.
However, a transfer looks improbable during the winter transfer window. Wolves are extremely reluctant to part ways with the Brazilian due to their relegation dogfight.
Arsenal unlikely to prise Cunha away from Wolves
Cunha signed for Wolves from Atletico Madrid in January 2023 with a conditional obligation to buy for £42 million.
The 25-year-old had an average debut season but stepped up last term with 22 goal contributions for the Midlands outfit.
He has replicated the performances this campaign with 14 goal involvements from only 19 appearances.
Wolves have spent most of the season in the drop zone, but Cunha has been a stand-out player in almost every game for them.
In our view, he would be an ideal signing for the Gunners due to his all-round attributes.
Cunha has a passing accuracy of almost 80 percent in the league, with 5.8 duels won and 4.4 recoveries per outing.
The former Atletico man has completed more than two dribbles per game, creating 11 big chances for his teammates.
His goalscoring and chance creation would make him the perfect striker for the Gunners.
Cunha has also been successful in the attacking midfield position, and he can operate from the right and left-wing roles too.
His versatility could be a major reason behind the Gunners’ interest, but Wolves could resist sanctioning his sale in the near future.
The club have had financial concerns, but they could wait until the conclusion of the season before cashing in on his services.
Pedro Neto left Wolves for Chelsea for a reported fee of £54m. It could take a similar package to land Cunha next summer.
