Chelsea could do business with Arsenal on transfer deadline day, according to journalist Fabrice Hawkins.
The Gunners are aiming to sign a versatile winger and Raheem Sterling has recently emerged as an option.
Manager Mikel Arteta likes the personality of Sterling and feels he could have a good influence on the squad.
Chelsea are now pushing to sell him to Arsenal so they can afford to sign Jadon Sancho from Manchester United.
Arsenal unlikely to make outlay on Sterling
Sterling has been deemed surplus to requirements by manager Enzo Maresca. The £29.5 million star has been told to find a new club.
It is pretty clear that west London outfit don’t want him in their ranks, but Arsenal have no plans of assisting them financially.
The Gunners are unwilling to pay any fee for Sterling and a deal could depend on the Blues.
Sterling, who is on £325,000 per week, may need to mutually terminate his contract with a compensation.
Otherwise, it could be a season-long loan deal with the Blues contributing the majority of his wages.
Arsenal won’t offer more than £150,000 per week to Sterling and the onus is on Chelsea to make a decision.
The Gunners are about to sign goalkeeper Neto on loan from Bournemouth in the coming hours.
They have failed to convince Espanyol to lower their £25m valuation for Joan Garcia, who was the priority target.
The funds could be spent on a forward, but Arsenal could still sign Sterling on a free transfer or loan.
