Arsenal graduate Charlie Patino set to join Deportivo La Coruna

Arsenal graduate Charlie Patino is set to join Spanish second tier club Deportivo La Coruna for a nominal fee, according to The Mirror.

The 20-year-old was once regarded as one of the best talents in the Gunners academy. He had a memorable debut, scoring in a 5-1 win over Sunderland in the Carabao Cup quarter-final in 2021.

However, he managed only one more appearance for the Gunners in the FA Cup before spending time on loan with Blackpool and Swansea City in the Championship over the last two seasons.

The youngster was not exceptional in either of those stints and Patino will now continue his career in La Liga 2 with Deportivo La Coruna. He is set to join them for an overall package of £1 million.

The decision to move to the Spanish second division comes as a surprise. Patino is eligible to play for Spain through his father and he could be aiming to restart his career in a new country.

The Gunners have included a significant sell-on clause which could benefit them in the long run.

With a year left on his contract, Arsenal have made the right decision to offload him. The club could have done the same last year when they were in a better position to negotiate his transfer.

Hopefully, Patino can make a big impression with Deportivo and secure promotion to La Liga with them. With a huge sell-on clause, the Gunners could reap rewards from his development.
