Arsenal registered an impressive 2-1 win over Manchester United in a pre-season friendly in California on Saturday night.
The Gunners went behind in the 10th minute after a Rasmus Hojlund goal, but they managed to pull level through Gabriel Jesus in the 26th minute.
Jesus had a simple tap-in from a brilliant pass from Ethan Nwaneri from the left flank.
Mikel Arteta’s side grew in confidence in the second half. Gabriel Martinelli scored the winner in the 81st minute, beating Andre Onana at his near post.
There were a number of positives to carry forward from the game. One of those was the performance of Nwaneri, who stood out in the opening half.
Aside from his assist, he completed 89 percent of his passes, winning 100 percent of his duels (4/4).
The 17-year-old also won 100 percent of his take-ons and tackles. He looked assured in possession, playing alongside Martin Odegaard in central midfield.
Nwaneri was substituted at the half-time interval, but the Gunners graduate should be in line for another start against Liverpool at the end of the month.
The teenager has hugely impressed in his pre-season stint. Should he carry on the good form, it may not be long before he makes his full competitive start.
Arsenal are scheduled to face Arne Slot’s side on July 31 before returning to London where they host Bayer Leverkusen and Lyon on August 7 and August 11.
The Gunners begin their new Premier League campaign against Wolverhampton Wanderers at home on August 17. Nwaneri could make his home debut.
