Galatasaray are prepared to compete with Fenerbahce for the signature of Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey this summer, according to Turkish outlet Takvim.
The Ghana international had another injury affected season with the Gunners. He managed less than 900 minutes across 16 appearances for the London giants last term.
With his contract expiring in June next year, the Gunners could be tempted to sell him.
It was recently reported that Fenerbahce president Ali Koc wants to bring Partey to the club. A formal offer could be made if he were to continue as the president next month.
Amidst this, Takvim claim that arch-rivals Galatasaray have joined the pursuit and they are prepared to contact Arsenal in order to make an official offer for the 30-year-old.
Arsenal likely to part ways with Partey
The Gunners recently made the decision to extend Jorginho’s contract for another season. This could directly affect the future of Partey ahead of the summer transfer window.
The club are likely to recruit a marquee defensive midfielder ahead of next season. Martin Zubimendi, Bruno Guimaraes and Joao Neves have been linked over recent months.
If one of them were to arrive, it is most certain that the Gunners will part ways with Partey.
The Ghanaian has been with the Gunners since October 2020, but he has missed more than 70 games with different injuries. He is no longer reliable over an extended run of games.
Of course, Arsenal could use him on a rotational basis, but Partey may prefer to play regularly elsewhere. Hence, there is a strong possibility that he could be shown the exit door.
Galatasaray could have a better chance of landing him over Fenerbahce, given they could come close to his £200,000-a-week wages. Mauro Icardi is their highest earner at £166,000 per week.
In comparison, Fenerbahce’s highest earners are currently at £116,000 weekly. Partey is valued at £17 million by Transfermarkt and Arsenal could hold out for a similar transfer fee.
