Arsenal eyeing surprise deal for Morgan Gibbs-White

Arsenal have emerged as surprise candidates to sign Nottingham Forest star Morgan Gibbs-White at the end of the season, according to Daily Star.

The Gunners have had a fantastic Premier League campaign and they are currently top of the standings with a better goal difference than Liverpool.

The club had a lean spell where they could not find the back of the net, but they have netted a staggering 33 goals from their last eight league outings.

They are currently the top scorers in the division with 70 goals, but manager Mikel Arteta will still want to improve his attacking options this summer.

Daily Star claim that the Gunners are currently keeping tabs on Gibbs-White, who could be sold by Forest amid their ongoing Financial Fair Play issues.

Forest were recently found guilty of exceeding their £61 million yearly loss threshold by £34.5m. They were docked four points as a result of the same.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side could be forced into a big-money sale to avoid further points deduction and Gibbs-White appears a likely candidate to leave.

Gibbs-White, who was signed for a club-record £42.5m from Wolves, has been identified by Arteta as a potential replacement for Emile Smith Rowe.

Gibbs-White would be a good attacking addition

A lot of eyebrows were raised when Forest broke their transfer record for Gibbs-White, but the playmaker is currently one of their most important figures.

The 24-year-old has generally operated from the number 10 position, but also has the ability to feature on either wing or as the main striker up front.

His versatility could be a key reason behind the Gunners interest. This season, Gibbs-White has registered three goals and five assists from 28 league games.

He has created 10 big chances for his teammates this season. In comparison, Martin Odegaard and Bukayo Saka have created 13 big chances apiece.

Aside from this, Gibbs-White has won an impressive 5.3 duels per game with 4.7 recoveries.

He needs to work on his distribution and ball control, but his creativity in the final third would make him a quality signing to provide back-up off the bench.

Arsenal are unlikely to get him on the cheap with Forest set to demand over £50 million despite their recent breach of Profitability & Sustainability regulations.
