Predicted Arsenal line-up vs Newcastle, Jorginho starts

Arsenal will be aiming to return to winning ways when they host Newcastle United in the Premier League this evening.

The Gunners suffered a disappointing 1-0 loss to Porto in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16 in midweek.

They failed to muster a shot on target which was a huge surprise, having scored 11 goals in the last two games on the road.

Mikel Arteta will want a strong response from his side against the Magpies.

The club are on a five-match winning league streak and can reduce the deficit to leaders Liverpool to two points with a victory.

Gabriel Jesus and Thomas Partey could be involved in the matchday squad, but may not make the starting line-up.

Formation: 4-3-3

Predicted Line-up:

David Raya has firmly established himself as the first-choice goalkeeper for the Gunners, but he should have done better to stop Galeno’s late stoppage time goal. The Spaniard will be aiming to make amends this evening.

In front of him, it should be a familiar back four.

Ben White is a nailed-on starter at right-back. The same should be the case for William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes in central defence.

Jakub Kiwior is braced to continue at left-back with Oleksandr Zinchenko doubtful. Takehiro Tomiyasu and Jurrien Timber are also injured.

In midfield, Arteta needs more defensive stability against a fiesty opposition in the Magpies.

Jorginho (valued at €15 million by Transfermarkt) could be reinstated into the XI for the first time since the Liverpool game where he delivered a man of the match performance.

Declan Rice was not at his very best against Porto after an early booking. The Englishman will be eyeing a more assured display from midfield.

Martin Odegaard should accompany the duo in the centre of the park. The club captain will press forward as usual when Arsenal are on the attack.

Odegaard has been in superb form over the last two league games with four goal involvements.

Further forward, Bukayo Saka is a nailed-on starter on the right wing. In the Premier League, Saka has six goals from his last four appearances.

Kai Havertz could get the opportunity to lead the line against a physical opposition. His aerial presence and hold-up play is much required.

We fancy Leandro Trossard to get the nod over Gabriel Martinelli on the left wing. The Belgian has three goals in his last three league games.

Martinelli showed plenty of naivety with his decision-making in stoppage time in Porto, and it cost the club dearly as they conceded a late goal.

The Brazilian could drop to the bench today. It could be a good thing as he will be determined to prove himself when introduced in the second half.
