Brentford want to sign Arsenal defender Jakub Kiwior in January

Brentford are interested in signing Arsenal defender Jakub Kiwior during the January transfer window, according to Calciomercato.it.

The Poland international joined the Gunners from Spezia for €25 million last winter and he has since made 20 appearances – majority off the bench.

Ahead of the New Year, Kiwior has been linked with several Serie A clubs including AC Milan and Roma. Brenford are also said to be interested in him.

However, none of the teams are likely to sign the 23-year-old in January. The Gunners have no interest in letting go of the defender at the start of 2024.

The London giants have responded with a ‘flat no’ to every approach to them and interested clubs may have to look elsewhere to bolster their backlines.

Arsenal can’t afford to lose Kiwior in January

The Gunners currently have William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes as the undisputed central defenders, but Kiwior is the immediate back-up option in the squad.

The same is the case for the left-back department this season. Kiwior has been acting as Oleksandr Zinchenko’s deputy for the most of the ongoing campaign.

With Jurrien Timber out for the long-term, the Gunners don’t have sufficient depth in both departments and they can ill-afford to lose Kiwior without a quality replacement.

Arsenal have been linked with Sporting’s Goncalo Inacio but we don’t see them triggering his €60m release clause as bolstering the midfield seems the top priority.

Hence, any decision regarding Kiwior’s future could be made next summer depending on his stance.

The club are currently in a tight situation with Financial Fair Play. They are not in a position to go on a huge spending spree and need to be wise with their investment this winter.
