Former Arsenal youth coach Freddie Ljungberg has shared his worry concerning his old side’s title chances.
The Gunners have not been fluid in attack this term compared to last season, and while they are top of the Premier League table after 13 games, the other teams in the top-four have scored more goals.
Arsenal currently rank 6th in goals per game and 11th in open goals per game.
They are also sixth in shots per game and 7th in expected goals per 90 minutes, but they have improved significantly at the back having conceded the least goals so far.
While Ljungberg believes Arsenal can challenge Manchester City for the title, he insists that the attacking stats have not been impressive, and Jamie Carragher doubts their chances.
“I think definitely they are ready to challenge for the title,” the former Gunners star said on Sky Sports.
“But the stat here is quite telling to be honest, and I don’t think that works in their favour.”
Arsenal clearly need to improve in the final third to boost their title chances, and strengthening the attack in January is a must.
Keeping clean sheets and conceding fewer goals are very encouraging, but they simply have to be perfect at the other end too if they want to pip Man City to the prize.
Gabriel Jesus recently admitted that scoring goals is not his forte, while Eddie Nketiah is not particularly prolific either.
Martin Odegaard (15), Gabriel Martinelli (15) and Bukayo Saka (14) bagged most league goals for the Gunners last term, but the trio have struggled this term and it has affected the team.
They need to up their game while the other attackers also need to step up if Arsenal want to succeed in their title ambitions.
The Gunners are on the right track and will fancy their chances of going one better this season, but things have to get better in attack for that to happen.
