Mikel Arteta gets ‘enormous’ Arsenal injury boost ahead of Everton clash

Arsenal will travel to Goodison Park to face Everton in the Premier League on Sunday (17 September 2023) after the international break.

Ahead of the match, the Gunners have been handed an “enormous” boost with centre-back Gabriel Magalhaes looking fit to play, despite injury concerns.

Gabriel suffered an injury scare during Brazil’s opening game against Bolivia – in his debut game for his country, he was on the wrong end of a horror tackle from Bolivia striker Diego Ibanez.

Ibanez’s right knee slammed into the chest of Gabriel as he was looking to win the ball. He continued the game and stayed on the pitch for another 80 minutes before he was taken off.

According to Football London, he was spotted with an ice pack on his thigh, and naturally, it sparked concerns over his fitness.

The defender quickly recovered, while a scan report suggested that he was not carrying any injury. Gabriel partnered with Paris Saint-Germain defender Marquinhos for the game against Peru and kept a clean sheet as Brazil won 1-0.

International breaks are tricky in the sense that players often tend to pick up injuries which adds to the frustration of the club manager. In this case, Gabriel looks fit to play this weekend.

Towards the end of the summer window, Gabriel was at the centre of a transfer swirl, but he stayed on.

Meanwhile, Thomas Partey has picked up a groin injury whilst on international duty with Ghana. It is unknown at the moment about the extent of the injury, but there is a chance that he might return to action as early as this weekend.
