Real Sociedad reach verbal agreement to sign Kieran Tierney from Arsenal

Real Sociedad have reached a verbal agreement to sign Arsenal defender Kieran Tierney on a season-long loan deal, according to reputed journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The Scotland international was a regular on the bench for the north London giants last term, and he made only six starts during the entire Premier League campaign.

The 26-year-old endured a similar fate during pre-season where the likes of Jurrien Timber, Takehiro Tomiyasu and Jakub Kiwior were preferred ahead of him at left-back.

Arsenal have now granted the Scot with a temporary move away from the club, considering Oleksandr Zinchenko is back to full fitness following a calf problem.

Sociedad have finalised a loan move for Tierney without a buy clause. Arsenal will receive a small fee, but the La Liga side will cover his entire £110,000-a-week wages until June.

Arsenal have made the right decision with Tierney

Tierney has been a fan favourite since his arrival from Celtic in 2019, but it is quite clear that he does not feature in the starting plans of manager Mikel Arteta anymore.

The former Hoops graduate came off the bench on 21 occasions in the top-flight last season, and it is obvious that he does not want to experience the same this campaign.

At Sociedad, he will have a starting role and has the chance to play in the Champions League too.

The move would be beneficial for both clubs. If Tierney has a brilliant season with Sociedad, Arsenal will have the opportunity to sell him for a good transfer fee next year.

Tierney, on the other hand, has the chance to establish himself as a permanent figure. He could persuade the La Liga outfit to sign him permanently with a productive stint.

The Scot is set to become the latest first-team star to leave the club after Folarin Balogun. Balogun is on his way to Monaco. The Ligue 1 outfit have agreed a deal worth £38.5 million.
