Arsenal continue to hold positive talks with Monaco over the potential transfer of Folarin Balogun this summer, according to Sky Sports.
The 22-year-old striker had a tremendous 2022/23 season on loan with Reims where he scored 22 goals and provided three assists from 39 games.
Despite those statistics, the Gunners have put him up for sale in the current transfer window as manager Mikel Arteta can’t assure him a starting spot.
Monaco are yet to make an improved bid for the USA international, but talks are progressively positively between the clubs at the current point of time.
Arsenal are reluctant to accept anything less than £50 million, and the clubs are trying to reach a broad agreement over the fee and the payment terms.
Aside from Monaco, Chelsea have also expressed an interest through Balogun’s agents, but Arsenal are likely to demand a much higher fee from them.
Balogun could leave Arsenal this week
Balogun featured in the first two friendlies in pre-season before suffering a minor foot injury. He has since been out of manager Mikel Arteta’s first-team plans.
This is a clear indication that the Gunners are preparing for his departure. In our view, it could happen this week as the club may want to invest the money recouped.
A new defender could be signed after the long-term injury sustained by Jurrien Timber. An attacker could also be pursued to provide competition to Bukayo Saka on the right wing.
Ajax’s Mohammed Kudus continues to remain available in the transfer market, but the Gunners have also been linked with an ambitious move for Barcelona graduate Ansu Fati.
It remains to be seen whether Monaco can secure a deal for Balogun. Chelsea could be willing to spend big, but we would prefer him moving abroad on a permanent basis.
