Darren Bent clashes with talkSPORT presenter Andy Goldstein for dubbing Kai Havertz rubbish

Darren Bent has clashed with talkSPORT presenter Andy Goldstein for dubbing Arsenal midfielder Kai Havertz ‘rubbish’.

The duo were rating the businesses clubs have done so far during the summer transfer window, and while the former striker gave a C to the signing of the Germany international, Goldstein was having none of it.

The talkSPORT presenter has always insisted that Havertz is not a good player, but Bent disagreed, insisting the Arsenal man is a top player to be playing at this level.

Bent believes the former Chelsea star is yet to justify himself and that moving to the Premier League has not worked out for him.

However, he reckons that would change if Arsenal can determine what his best position is.

The 24-year-old played as a number 9 last term for the Blues and has largely featured in attack since moving to England.

Gunners manager Mikel Arteta snapped up Havertz due to his versatility in a £65 million deal, and the German has been deployed across many positions so far since joining Arsenal.

He featured in midfield on his debut in the 1-1 draw against Bundesliga 2 side Nurnberg, grabbing his first goal for the North London club in the 5-0 win against MLS All-Stars while starting the game on the left of a three-man midfield before being pushed further up the pitch towards the end of the game.

The German also started in a three-man midfield alongside Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard and Declan Rice in the 2-0 loss to Manchester United in the next game but played as a number 9 in the Community Shield against Manchester City, earning the praise of the boss after the game before returning to midfield in the Premier League opener against Nottingham Forest.

His versatility could be doing more harm than good, and the onus is on the manager to get the best out of Havertz, while the player himself needs to start proving his quality as soon as possible.
