Oleksandr Zinchenko and Reiss Nelson return to Arsenal training

Arsenal have been handed a double injury boost ahead of the new season with Oleksandr Zinchenko and Reiss Nelson both seen in the training session on Friday.

The Ukrainian full-back and the English attacker missed the pre-season tour of the United States of America due to their injuries but are now back on the pitch with their teammates.

Sunday’s Community Shield against Manchester City comes too early for them, but Nelson could be available for the Premier League opener against Nottingham Forest next weekend.

Arsenal released a clip from the training session today, and both were seen in action and in good spirits.

Nelson sustained a foot injury while Arsenal were having their pre-season camp in Germany, but he featured in the 1-1 draw against Nurnberg.

However, the Gunners decided it was safer to let him recover in the UK and opted against taking him to the United States.

Nelson signed a new four-year deal last month and was hoping to use the pre-season preparations to impress manager Mikel Arteta and force his way into the first-team.

The 23-year-old featured in 18 games across all completions last season after returning from a loan spell at Feyenoord, starting five times, scoring thrice and assisting thrice.

Nelson will face additional competition from Kai Havertz and the now-fit Emile Smith Rowe for a place in the pecking order next term and will be relishing the challenge.

Zinchenko missed all of pre-season with a calf issue and has been plagued by that same muscular issue since joining Arsenal.

Summer arrival Jurrien Timber played at left-back against AS Monaco and is expected to start in the position until the Ukraine international returns.

The Gunners are also without Brazilian striker Gabriel Jesus but he is expected to return to action soon, with Eddie Nketiah now likely to start the campaign as the first-choice striker, while Kai Havertz and Leandro Trossard can also feature as number 9s if need be.
