Arsenal’s extravagant spending is projected forward, affording them the chance to do it all again this summer, reports The Athletic.
The Gunners spent £145 million on players in the summer of 2021, parted with £165m last term and they have plans to spend around £200m this summer.
However, Arsenal are not at risk of breaking Financial Fair Play rules despite their spending spree.
The money spent this summer will not all be included in the accounts for this season and can instead be spread out over the arriving players’ contracts.
The North London club bought Gabriel Jesus for £45m, but the five-year contract the Brazilian striker signed ensures the cost will be spread between 2022 and 2027 at £9m per season.
Apart from projecting their spending forward, finishing second in the Premier League last term and qualifying for the Champions League have boosted their finances.
Arsenal have pocketed around £180m for ending the campaign as runners-up, while they made around £30m from reaching the Europa League last-16.
They are set to sell some of their players this summer, with Granit Xhaka, Thomas Partey, Kieran Tierney and Folarin Balogun all likely to be sold.
Around £100m could be made from sales, and revenues are going to climb sharply next season.
Arsenal are not among the 19 clubs on UEFA’s monitoring list, and they are also still compliant with the Premier League’s FFP rules.
They have nothing to be worried about on that front and will confidently continue to splash the cash.
The Gunners have agreed a deal to sign Chelsea attacker Kai Havertz for around £65m, while West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice is expected to cost £100m.
Arsenal want to sign Ajax defender Jurrien Timber and will need to pay more than £30m for the Dutchman.
They could end up spending more than £200m this summer but are not about to feel the shackles of financial fair play anytime soon.
