Arsenal hope Chelsea lower price for Kai Havertz before June deadline

Arsenal are hopeful that Chelsea will reduce their £70 million asking price for Kai Havertz before the June 30 deadline, according to Standard Sport.

The north London giants have identified Havertz as one of their top targets for the summer transfer window, and talks are already underway with the Blues.

However, the Gunners are not close to finalising a fee for the German star. They are reluctant to meet the £70 million valuation set by their London counterparts.

It is now reported that Arsenal are hopeful that the Blues will lower their valuation for the 24-year-old before the June deadline.

Chelsea are currently aiming to sanction player departures before June 30 such that the sales can be included in their financial accounts for the calendar year.

Meanwhile, Arsenal face another stumbling block on the player’s side. While Havertz is keen on a move, the club won’t match his £250,000-a-week wages.

Arsenal should look elsewhere to bolster squad

Havertz had a difficult 2022/23 campaign with the Blues, netting just nine goals in all competitions. The German struggled in his role as the main centre-forward.

In our view, the former Bayer Leverkusen man is unlikely to play in that position at Arsenal. Mikel Arteta may have plans of slotting him in the number eight role.

Still, some Arsenal fans may not be pleased with the pursuit, considering the German has been highly inconsistent since his move to Chelsea from the Bundesliga.

Havertz is capable of delivering through balls from deeper positions, but the big question is whether he can revive the form and confidence from his Leverkusen days.

If Arsenal are interested, they should avoid paying more than £40 million up front. The midfielder will have to accept a pay-cut in order to secure a move to north London.

Else, they should look at alternative options. Brighton & Hove Albion’s Moises Caicedo would provide a big upgrade to Arsenal’s midfield alongside Declan Rice next term.
